Proliferation of Shorthand in Europe
16th Century Europeans saw shorthand as a way of spreading the word of God by Preserving Sermons.
In 18th Century England, use of shorthand was sparked by increased popular demand to read the actual Debates Of Parliamentary Sessions due to slanted summary newspaper accounts.
And the blossoming worldwide Industrial Revolution of the late 19th Century created enormous need for stenographers in order to ease the burgeoning paperwork.
By 1883 Europe had about 3,000 shorthand systems, including hundreds in the English language.
